Borrowers-Eligibility

Any resident of Muleshoe and the surrounding area is eligible to use the library and check out materials if in good standings(No fines or late fees).  Library cards must be presented in order to check out materials or knowledge of account number.  There is no charge for the initial card issued to a patron.

Adults

Keep in mind, there will be only one card issued per household. Any resident of Muleshoe and the surrounding area 17 years old or older, will be issued a library card upon completion of an application card at the circulation desk.  Valid identification will be required.

Lost Cards

From time to time patrons will report that a library card has been lost.  There is a one dollar charge for a replacement card.

Circulation Period

The circulation period for adult and juvenile books in the general collection is 2 weeks.

The circulation period for various other materials is as follows:

            DVDs                    -            1 day

            Audio books      -            2 weeks

Confidentiality of Library Records

All library records are confidential regardless of patron’s age.  In accordance with the First Amendment guarantees, names of patrons and information about materials checked out will be protected under the laws of the State and the Nation.

Videos

Videos are circulated for a period of one day.  These items may be renewed if not scheduled  for use by another library patron.  Videos will not be checked out to children under the age of 17.

Computer

The library furnishes 5 public computers for the patrons. Children under the age of 13 must have adult supervision, at all times. Failure to follow library policies and staff directions, may result in the termination of computer privileges. A charge will be assessed for each printed page.

Fines and Fees

An appropriate charge is made for overdue items and the fine schedule will be posted in a suitable location for the convenience of patrons.

All damages to library materials beyond reasonable wear and all losses shall be paid for to the satisfaction and records of the librarian.

Reference Material

Reference Material may be used only in the library.

Renewals

Books may be renewed for another circulation period (2 weeks) unless the book is on reserve or in special demand.

Reserves

Reserves are taken on most circulating materials in the library.  Upon locating a reserved item, the library will contact the patron once.

Interlibrary Loan Service

Interlibrary loan service is available through the West Texas Library System.  Patrons must have a library card in order to use this service.  Users are expected to abide by interlibrary loan policy concerning return of material and payment for lost materials.  Return postage will be requested for books.

INFORMATION SERVICES

Information service is provided to all members of the public.  Service will not be denied or abridged because of sex, age, disabilities, religious, racial, social, economic or political status.

Telephone Reference Service

The library provides telephone reference service during hours of library operation.  Priority attention is given to patrons who are in the building and needing assistance.  If possible, all informational inquiries are handled on a first come - first served basis.  If the library staff cannot provide immediate help, patrons wanting service will be contacted as soon as possible.

Photocopy Service

The library provides a photocopy machine for patron convenience and protection of the library collection. Copyright laws are to be followed by all patrons making photocopies. The library has no responsibility for personal violations of copyright.  A charge will be assessed for each page copied.

Orientation/Tours

The library offers orientation and tours of the facility for patrons of all ages.  Such activities will be scheduled during the regular operating hours.  Scheduling should be done prior to need with the librarian.
